I was recently approached with an enquiry to create a solid copper plaque featuring engraved technical drawings. To give an idea of what’s possible, I thought I’d share some photos of previous examples where I’ve engraved engineering and technical illustrations into copper. The clean lines of technical drawings translate beautifully when etched into metal: they capture the detail and accuracy of the original design while gaining a sense of permanence and artistry.
Copper is an especially striking choice for this type of work. Over time it develops a natural patina, enhancing the engraving and adding depth and character. Whether polished to a shine or left to age gracefully, each plaque tells its own story.

The copper piece above was commissioned by my customer for a very special aviation enthusiast in her life. The engraved technical drawing is of a Supermarine Spitfire Mk VIII fighter plane. This project held a special significance for me also, as two of my grandparents were design engineers for the Spitfire during WWII.
These pieces make thoughtful commemorative items, display features for offices and studios, or unique gifts for engineers, architects, and designers.
If you have a project in mind - or are curious about the process - I’d love to hear from you. I can also engrave into other metals such as solid bronze and brass. You can find more examples of my previous work in my portfolio here.
Thanks for looking!
