I recently had the pleasure of creating a bespoke aged brass sign for The Tasting Club, the exciting and acclaimed tasting menu restaurant in in Derbyshire. Nestled in the picturesque village of Brailsford, between Ashbourne and Derby, the restaurant opened in 2022 and was renovated earlier this year. I was honoured to play a (very small) part in this rennovation, by supplying the "The Tasting Club" backlit brass sign, as shown in the photos below.
This piece was cut from 3mm solid brass, with The Tasting Club’s logo precision-cut all the way through the metal. The brass was then aged by hand to develop a rich, antique patina, giving it a characterful finish. To complete the design, the sign was offset from the wall and backlit—allowing light to shine through the cut lettering. (This was done by the restaurant, I can't claim any credit for that part!)
I had the pleasure of working on the design of the sign with head chef & owner George, who not only is an allround great guy, but also was named Best Chef in Derbyshire and has over ten years of experience cooking in Michelin awarded kitchens around the country.
The Tasting Club offers a sensory dining experience, with an ingredient-led tasting menu that changes every three months based on what the season has to offer. The menu features playful spins on nostalgic childhood classics, unusual and intriguing visuals and exciting twists on humble favourites. I don't know about you, but I'm getting hungry just writing this! If you're in the Derbyshire area, I highly recommend stopping by The Tasting Club (and if you do, don't forget to comment on the sign!).
There is more information about The Tasting Club on their website (link above), and if you're interested in finding out more about the brass, bronze and copper business signs I make, then please don't hesitate to get in touch. There are more examples of my past work in my portfolio here.
