Here’s something a little different from the usual wall-mounted plaques made here in the workshop: a set of two custom freestanding signs made from solid 2mm thick copper.
The plaques were made for an antiques website in Ireland and engraved with their website address, www.antiques.ie. The lettering is deeply engraved and darkened to give a strong contrast against the copper surface. The copper has been given an antiqued finish, bringing out the natural variation and character of the metal.
Rather than using separate brackets or a stand, each plaque has two feet formed directly from the copper itself. These are bent backwards to support the plaque at an angle, creating a simple freestanding design that can be placed on a counter, desk, shelf or display cabinet.
