Earlier this week, while strolling through Totnes, I had a moment of serendipity that stopped me in my tracks. Hanging quietly from an iron bracket projecting from the masonry in one of the side streets was a sign I instantly recognised: an antiqued brass hanging sign I made a little while ago for a client.
I hadn’t seen it since the day it left my workshop, but there it was, aged beautifully (partly by my own hand and partly by the weather), its surface deepened with a patina. It’s always rewarding to see how materials change and settle over time, especially brass - it develops its own character with exposure to the elements, becoming warmer and richer.
Here is a photo I took of it:

This is the first time seeing a piece of my work out in the real world, proudly fulfilling its purpose. There was something very satisfying about seeing it in its new home and making the connection between the hands-on process of making and the real places where these pieces end up. It was a lovely reminder of why I do what I do.
Thanks for looking and please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to find out more or would like me to make a metal plaque or hanging sign for you. You can find more examples of my previous work in my portfolio here.
